Indonesia and France have enjoyed diplomatic relations for over seven decades since 1947. The recent visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Jakarta further solidified this bond, as he was warmly welcomed in a grand state ceremony. The grounds of Merdeka Palace and the area surrounding the National Monument (Monas) were filled with around 3,000 students of all ages, elegantly dressed and waving the flags of both countries. President Macron’s motorcade, accompanied by First Lady Brigitte Macron, made its way from Monas to the palace amid tight security, enhancing the ceremonial ambiance.

Upon arriving at Merdeka Palace, President Macron was greeted by President Prabowo Subianto in an official welcome. The two leaders proceeded to the ceremonial grounds together, accompanied by the national anthems of Indonesia and France and a 21-gun salute as a formal gesture. The honor guard inspection under the clear blue sky of Jakarta included enthusiastic students waving flags in the palace courtyard, further highlighting the friendly atmosphere.

The ceremony was attended by ministers from the Red and White Cabinet, as well as Prabowo’s son, Ragowo Hediprasetyo. President Macron’s itinerary in Indonesia included a visit to the Military Academy in Magelang and a trip to the UNESCO World Heritage site, Borobudur Temple, emphasizing the cultural and educational ties between the two nations. Following the welcoming ceremony, the two leaders engaged in a closed-door bilateral meeting to discuss various strategic partnerships, signifying a strengthening of the relationship between Indonesia and France.
